BPM's Community Discord Channel
What is Discord and why are we using it?
Brampton Prison Ministry is all about getting our members to share, communicate and grow. That's why we've decided to launch a Discord server. Discord is a platform all about communication and accessibility. Members can pop in and chat, check in on each other, share news about exciting opportunities in their lives, work through their struggles, and connect to not just each other but to resources and help for the issues that matter to them. It's also a way to create essentially an "ad-hoc" meeting through voice and even video chat features. It's also a platform that allows for moderation not just through automated means but by trusted people who know what is and isn't pertinent to recovery.
Imagine this, you're fresh out of the institution and feeling isolated. The 12 step meeting you were told about might not be running for a week, it's still a few days away from BPM's Wednesday meeting. You just want to be able to check in and share your frustrations but you feel so alone. Previously our members might 'white knuckle' it for a few days until they get connected with the group properly. By having a Discord server you can connect to. Connecting with the group, sharing your experience and getting back to being a part of the community has never been easier. There's no meeting ID and password to remember, there's no waiting for certain days or times to get together. This is all about using the tools of technology to build a better community.
