How do you describe a show like Treatment Talk? It's essentially a talk show where the hosts are being honest about their journeys, sharing the depths of their mistakes and allowing you as a listener to have an insight into why their recovery is important to them.
When we came up with the idea for Treatment Talk, we had three simple principles in mind:
Share the experience, not the war story...
Be Professionally Unprofessional
Understand Where We Came From
Sometimes support groups or other meetings in recovery turn into a game of one-upmanship. It's like getting a bunch of old fisherman together to talk about their catches and it turns into bragging about fish the size of whales and mighty battles on the water that would have felled a lesser man.
Treatment Talk isn't like that. We don't swap those kinds of stories, we don't glorify the details. We stick to the topic at hand with integrity and ownership.
When it comes to mental health struggles, the criminal justice system, and other topics we discuss on Treatment Talk I'm sure there are plenty of experts out there. Those folks have their own platforms, their own outlets to get their take out there. We founded Treatment Talk so that the men who have a practical experience and a firsthand perspective could have a platform so they can feel empowered and that their story matters.
When we're coming up with topics, asking each other questions and sharing our stories, we make sure it comes back to being the advice and wisdom we wish that we had heard in our past. The people who listen to the show may have just entered recovery, it might be their first week back home after being in an institution. While our hosting panel does a lot to empower each other, we stay conscious of how our conversation can have an impact on someone else's recovery, no matter how far along in the journey they are.
New episodes are typically released twice per month and are available on Spotify, YouTube, and on our website absolutely free.
