Bags of Confidence
More Than A Backpack
Men leaving a prison or treatment center are typically given nothing except the clothes on their backs and whatever papers and personal items they entered with. If they're lucky they're given a cardboard box to put their stuff in.
It Contains Love
We also include a few sundry items such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, a pair of socks, snack foods and a gift card allowing them to make a purchase for themselves at a department store
It Contains Dignity
Brampton Prison Ministry strives to give everyone who's being discharged from Ontario Correctional Institute a backpack. Something truly practical and allowing them a certain dignity, they don't look out of place with a random cardboard box, the backpack gives them back their dignity
How We Do It
Thankfully over the years of operating this program, we've pared our costs down to sustainable levels while still making sure our backpacks are of high quality that the men are proud to receive.
It Contains Hope
Inside of every Bags of Confidence backpack, we place one of our newsletters which gives the new member of our community a first point of contact to get in touch with our groups and programs as well as information about foodbanks, employment help and emergency housing
How You Can Help
Our fundraisers such as our Pancake Breakfasts and our Trivia Nights directly support this program. Financial donations are always welcome. To donate please contact us by email here
